Vauxhall has confirmed prices for the latest addition to its fully electric passenger car range, Astra Electric.
Available in two trim lines from launch – sporty GS and top-of-the-range Ultimate – prices for the first ever fully electric Astra will start from £39,995 OTR. Orders are now open with first deliveries due later this summer.
The Astra Electric features Vauxhall’s next-generation 54kWh lithium-ion battery for improved performance, with up to 258 miles of range between charges (WLTP) and is available with the brand’s most advanced technology suite yet, Intelli-Drive 2.0 – adding semi-autonomous lane change and intelligent speed adaption.
The Astra Electric will be joined by the Astra Electric Sports Tourer later this year, furthering the choice for Vauxhall customers who are looking to go electric. With the arrival of the Astra Electric Sports Tourer, Vauxhall will have a choice of six fully electric models across its passenger car range, in addition to already offering a fully electric Light Commercial Vehicle (LCV) line-up. By 2028, Vauxhall will be an electric-only manufacturer, seven years ahead of UK Government targets.
Astra design for the electric age
The Astra Electric carries Vauxhall’s contemporary Bold and Pure design language, already seen on petrol and Plug-in Hybrid variants of the Astra. The front end is defined by the Vauxhall Vizor, a single, sleek, panel that houses the LED headlights and sensors that make up the driver aids and safety technologies onboard the Astra Electric. The nose of the car also houses the new Vauxhall Griffin logo. Ultimate variants upgrade the lights to IntelliLux Pixel Matrix LED® units that provide unparalleled lighting in the sector thanks to 168 individual LED lights.
The ‘Compass’ design principle seen on the Astra also applies to the Astra Electric. The front -end design balances the horizontal and vertical axes to centre on the black Griffin badge, to lower and widen the car’s appearance. At the rear, the centrally mounted Griffin, vertically-aligned high-mounted brake lamp and the wing-shaped tail lamps have the same effect. The Griffin badge also doubles as the latch for the tailgate, which is made of state-of-the-art composite material to reduce weight.
All versions of the Astra Electric come standard with 18-inch diamond cut alloy wheels – black on GS models and bi-colour on Ultimate versions, contrast black roof and door mirrors and a black surround and detailing for the Vizor front end.
Interior and new technology
Inside, Astra Electric features Vauxhall’s latest interior technologies, housed within a detoxed cabin.
The Pure Panel Pro infotainment system dominates the dashboard, featuring a 10-inch digital instrument cluster and a 10-inch central display – creating an elegant, high-tech environment for both driver and passenger. For the Astra Electric, the latest generation of intuitive human-machine interface (HMI) displays all important functions such as battery charge status or range, while important settings such as climate control can still be easily adjusted at the touch of a physical button.
On Ultimate models, the Intelli-HUD head-up display unit keeps eyes on the road, while all models benefit from natural voice recognition provides a quick and hands-free way to control key vehicle functions for an added level of safety, activated by saying “Hey Vauxhall!”. Sitting ahead of the instrumentation is a newly designed three-spoke flat-bottom steering wheel inspired by the ‘Compass’ design principle.
Intelli-Drive 2.0, the latest driver assistance package from Vauxhall, makes its first appearance on Astra Electric. Standard on Ultimate models, upgrades include Advanced Intelligent Speed Adaption, which monitors both road signs and weather conditions to adjust the vehicle speed.
Intelli-Drive 2.0 also adds semi-automated lane change assist, which works at speeds between 45mph and 70mph and enables the driver to instruct the vehicle to change lanes, conditions permitting. Other features already available with Intelli-Drive include lane positioning assist, which helps drivers accurately position the car in a lane, and rear cross traffic alert, which uses the radars on the rear bumpers to detect moving objects to the rear sides of the vehicle.
Ultimate models also benefit from Intelli-Air clean air technology and wireless smartphone charging, while the Intelli-Vision 360 panoramic parking camera and Apple CarPlay™/Android Auto™ is standard on all models.
All Astra Electric models feature a driver seat approved by AGR (Germany’s Campaign for Healthier Backs) providing improved comfort and support, with Ultimate adding Alcantara® upholstery to all seats. Comfort and convenience are further boosted by the heated leather steering wheel, keyless entry and start, and rain sensitive wipers that all models get. Acoustic glass and additional boot and door seals reduce interior noise levels for a calmer cabin experience.
Astra emissions free for the first time
The Astra Electric features a 115kW (156hp) electric motor producing 270Nm of torque, powered by Vauxhall’s next-generation 54kWh lithium-ion battery. An impressive range of 258 miles (WLTP) is possible on a single charge, while the packaging of the battery and motor system results in no compromise in interior space or practicality, compared with Plug-in Hybrid versions of the Astra.
The new 54kWh battery is made up of 102 battery cells housed in 17 modules and has been designed with efficiency in mind. The Astra Electric requires just 14.9kWh of electricity to cover 62 miles (100km), making it ideal for daily use, and drivers can choose between three driving modes; Eco, Normal, and Sport, to suit their needs.
The Astra Electric accelerates from 0-62mph in 9.2 seconds and achieves a top-speed of 106mph.
An 11kW on-board charger is offered as standard, which can achieve a full charge from empty in 5hr 45mins using a public charger. Supporting up to 100kW rapid charging, a 10% to 80% charge can be completed in just 30 minutes.

Using the MyVauxhall app, drivers can specify delayed charging to take advantage of lower electricity tariffs during off-peak hours and also when the grid often has a higher mix of renewable energy. The delayed charging can also be activated through a push button in the charging flap.

As part of Vauxhall’s simplified trim line-up, the Astra Electric is available in two highly-equipped trim levels – sporty GS and top-of-the-range Ultimate.
GS models come with 18-inch bi-colour black alloy wheels, black Vizor frame and detailing as well as a black roof and door mirrors. LED headlights with high beam assist are standard on GS models too.
Inside, all models come with Pure Panel Pro infotainment with Apple CarPlay™ and Android Auto™, and voice activated navigation. Safety on board is improved via Intelli-Drive 2.0 featuring automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, lane change assist with blind side spot alert, forward collision alert and rear cross traffic alert.
Ultimate variants add IntelliLux Pixel Matrix LED® headlights with 168 individual LED lights. Ultimate models also come with Intelli-Air climate control, Intelli-HUD head-up display and bi-colour alloy wheels
A panoramic roof adds to the interior ambiance, while a heated steering wheel and Alcantara® covered heated seats improve comfort.
