The rumors have been swirling for months, but the speculation officially ends today. Amazon Prime Video has just dropped a bombshell announcement that answers the biggest question in the automotive world: Is The Grand Tour dead?
The answer is a resounding no.
But while the tent (or what’s left of it) remains, the faces inside are changing. Following the emotional departure of Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond, and James May in 2024, Amazon has confirmed the three brave souls stepping into those gigantic, petrol-soaked shoes.
Meet the new hosts of The Grand Tour: James Engelsman, Thomas Holland, and Francis Bourgeois.
Wait, Who?
If you live on the internet, you probably know them. If you don’t, you’re in for a wild ride. This isn’t a safe, traditional casting choice—it’s a calculated bet on digital chemistry and viral charisma.
Here is the breakdown of the new lineup for the 2026 reboot.
1 & 2 The Throttle House Duo: James Engelsman & Thomas Holland
For years, car enthusiasts have whispered that the Canadian-based YouTube channel Throttle House was the spiritual successor to the original Top Gear. Now, Amazon has made it official.
James Engelsman (The Brit): Witty, cynical, and sharply critical, James brings the journalistic edge. He’s known for his dry humor and refusal to be impressed by six-figure price tags unless the car actually delivers.
Thoms Holland (The Canadian): The driving force—literally. A track junkie with incredible car control, Thomas is the playful, optimistic counterweight to James.
Why it works: They aren’t strangers being forced together in a boardroom. James and Thomas have spent nearly a decade building genuine, bickering, "old married couple" chemistry on YouTube. They already have the banter, the inside jokes, and the driving chops.
In the press release, Thomas joked, "When I first heard they were rebooting The Grand Tour and replacing Clarkson, Hammond, and May, I said ‘only a moron would take that job’."
3 The Wildcard: Francis Bourgeois
This is the curveball that no one saw coming. Francis Bourgeois is best known to the world as the "Train Guy" on TikTok—the man whose infectious, GoPro-distorted joy over diesel locomotives made him a global viral sensation.
But can he do cars? Actually, yes. Before he was spotting trains, Francis was a mechanical engineering student who worked at Rolls-Royce. He understands machines on a granular level.
Francis describes his new role with characteristic humility: "It’ll be like Mo Farah running in size 14 wellies—it’ll be a little awkward at first, perhaps blister-inducing, but overall an interesting watch."
The Verdict: A New Era?
Replacing the "Holy Trinity" (Clarkson, Hammond, May) is an impossible task. Amazon seems to know this. Instead of trying to find a "New Jeremy" or a "New Richard," they have pivoted to a different kind of energy.
This lineup promises a shift from "three middle-aged men falling over" to "three younger car nerds geeking out." It’s a risk, but with the built-in chemistry of the Throttle House boys and the pure, unadulterated enthusiasm of Francis Bourgeois, it might just work.
The new series is set to premiere later in 2026.
