If you regularly drive around Cardiff, you'll want to pay extra attention to your speedometer on one busy local route soon. GoSafe has announced the upcoming activation of a new fixed speed camera in the capital.
Whether you’re heading out for a weekend drive or just commuting to work, here is everything you need to know to stay safe, avoid points, and keep your license intact.
The new camera is located in the North of Cardiff on Rhyd Y Penau Road.
| Camera Location | Camera Type | Speed Limit | Activation Date |
|---|---|---|---|
| Rhyd Y Penau Rd, Cardiff | Fixed Speed | 20mph | 28th July 2026 |
GoSafe has stated that highways authorities install these fixed cameras in high-risk collision zones to encourage safer driving. However, because they want to focus on education rather than immediate prosecution, they are implementing a four-week grace period.
For the first four weeks following the July 28th activation date:
- First-time offenders caught by this camera will receive an Advice Letter instead of a fine, points, or a speed awareness course.
- This letter aims to raise awareness of the 20mph limit and give drivers a fair warning before official enforcement begins.
- Note: This advice letter is a one-time offer. It will only be sent to motorists who have not previously received an advice letter in Wales. If you’ve already had one elsewhere, standard prosecution rules apply.
Keep Track of Camera Locations
