Vauxhall’s all-new Corsa has won the prestigious AUTOBEST “Best Buy Car of Europe 2020”.

The fifth generation Corsa, available for the first time as battery-electric Corsa-e, was chosen by international journalists from 31 countries as the new car offering the best value for money. The journalists confirmed the result during test drives at the final in Istanbul, Turkey.

Vauxhall shares the award with sister brand Opel and is a hat trick for the Corsa, as the first car to win AUTOBEST across three generations (2007, 2015 and 2020). Vauxhall’s Combo Life also won AUTOBEST last year.

“The new Vauxhall Corsa is a deserving winner of 2020 AUTOBEST Best Buy Car of Europe,” said UK AUTOBEST juror Richard Aucock. “It is affordable, drives well, is impressively refined and extremely fuel-efficient. It has an impressive array of tech, including some sector first features such as matrix LED headlights. The introduction of the all-electric Corsa-e is also significant. Vauxhall’s best-seller will help democratise electric motoring, another aim of the AUTOBEST organisation.

Simply put, the AUTOBEST Best Buy award should go to the car offering the very best all-round package for real-world car buyers. The 2020 Vauxhall Corsa is a very deserving winner.”

“We are very happy to receive this award,” said Vauxhall/Opel CEO Michael Lohscheller. “The verdict of the independent specialist journalists shows that with the Corsa we have created a future-oriented car for everyone. A car that is state-of-the-art, efficient, and well-equipped, with strong driving dynamics. At prices you can afford. At the same time, the Corsa, as a three-time AUTOBEST winner, shows that with each new generation of vehicles we are delivering on our promise to make top technologies available to a wide range of buyers.”

One of the most hotly-anticipated new cars to go on sale in 2019, the all-new fifth generation Corsa is available as fully electric, or with high-efficiency petrol or diesel powertrains.

Corsa has been Vauxhall’s best-selling car for many years, with over 2.1 million Corsas sold in the UK since it launched in 1993. The British buying public are familiar with its name and looks, and have a fondness for its compact dimensions and interior packaging.

Together with the Grandland X Hybrid4, the Corsa-e marked the start of Vauxhall’s electrification-offensive this year. All Vauxhall models will be electrified by 2024: customers can then choose an “e” version of each model.

Also, electric light commercial vehicles are becoming particularly important for the “last mile” in city centres. The Vivaro-e van will launch next year. Electrified versions of the Combo Life, Combo Cargo and Vivaro Life will then arrive in 2021.
