Vauxhall has opened orders for the New Frontera, the first car in the UK market to offer list price parity between electric and petrol hybrid versions.

James Taylor, Managing Director, Vauxhall, said: “New Frontera opening for orders is an important milestone in making electric vehicles more accessible, as the first model in the UK market to offer an identical list price for electric and petrol hybrid versions. With our fully refreshed electric SUV line-up, we are providing customers with even more choice as part of our ongoing efforts to democratise access to electric vehicles – whether through our Electric Streets campaign, our new Electric All In benefits package, or by offering a fully electric version of every model in passenger car and van range.”

Powertrains

New Frontera is available with a choice of fully electric and petrol hybrid powertrains. The Frontera Electric is available with a 44kWh (usable) battery with a range of up to 186 miles (WLTP). The electric motor produces 113hp and 125Nm of torque, allowing the new Frontera Electric to accelerate from 0 to 62mph in 12.1 seconds and reach a top speed of 87mph (electronically limited). The battery can be recharged from 20 to 80 percent in around 26 minutes from a 100kW rapid charger, or 3 hours 50 minutes from an 11kW AC charger. A Long Range version with approximately 248 miles of range will be available later this year.

For customers not yet ready for the switch to full electrification, Vauxhall offers the new Frontera Hybrid with 48-volt technology.

Available in two power outputs, both feature a turbocharged petrol engine specially developed for hybrid use. The compact system combines a 1.2-litre three-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine and a 21kW (28hp) electric motor, which is mated to a clever and cost-effective electrified six-speed dual clutch transmission. The standard version produces 74kW (100hp) and 205Nm of torque, enabling it to accelerate from 0-62mph in 11.0 seconds and on to a top speed of 112mph. Also available is a 100kW (136hp) version with 230Nm of torque that is capable of 0-62mph in 9.0 seconds and a top speed of 118mph.

When accelerating and starting from a standstill, the electric motor supports the petrol engine with a power and torque boost. And at low speeds, it also enables fully electric driving for up to one kilometre at a time or up to 50 per cent of the time in the city – for example when manoeuvring.

Design

New Frontera adopts a rugged interpretation of Vauxhall’s Bold and Pure design philosophy. The front-end bears Vauxhall’s distinctive Vizor, which seamlessly integrates with the Intelli-LED headlights with high beam assist and the central Vauxhall Griffin logo. Prominent wheel arches and sills as well as the eye-catching C-pillar design underline the robust character.

Measuring 4,385mm in length, the Frontera sits between the Mokka (4,151mm) and New Grandland (4,650mm) in Vauxhall’s refreshed SUV line-up. Despite measuring the same length as an Astra hatchback, New Frontera offers greater boot capacity with the rear seats down (1,600 litres) than an Astra Sports Tourer Electric (1,594 litres).

Additional versatility is provided by the 60:40 split of the rear bench and the two-position Flex Floor boot. Furthermore, customers who want to take full advantage of the roof load of more than 240kg can choose the optional roof rails. And thanks to the availability of up to seven seats (optional on Hybrid GS models only), the new Frontera is the ideal vehicle for customers with an active lifestyle.

New Frontera was designed with sustainability in mind as part of Vauxhall’s ‘Greenovation’ approach. It is constructed using a mix of processed aluminium, steel with recycled content and various polymer elements, while inside the fabrics and surfaces such as door panels are made from materials with recycled content. In addition, elements such as the GS steering wheel are made of vegan synthetic leather. This ensures that the New Frontera consists of up to 95 per cent reusable materials and is 85 per cent recyclable.

Interior

New Frontera features Vauxhall’s ‘Pure Panel’ cockpit with dual 10-inch widescreen displays, a newly designed steering wheel and physical buttons for key functions. Vauxhall consistently follows the philosophy of maximum comfort with minimum distraction, with a clean, detoxed user experience to avoid any form of digital stress.

The central touchscreen can be easily operated using widgets like on a smartphone. Satellite navigation is included as standard, as are wireless Apple CarPlay™/Android Auto™ and wireless smartphone charging. A simple ‘Hey Vauxhall’ is enough to activate the natural voice recognition. New Frontera also features up to five USB-C charging ports, with connections for all three seating rows (two in the front, two in the second row, and one in the third row if fitted with seven seats).

New Frontera is equipped with a number of smart storage solutions. Larger devices that would normally not fit into the cabin properly, such as tablets, can be safely stored in the centre console thanks to a flexible strap that holds them in place. Further open storage areas in the cabin can take daily carry-ons with rubber lining preventing rattling and sliding. Second row passengers can take advantage of the integrated smartphone pockets in the backrests of the front seats.

Specification

Entry-level Design models offer 16-inch black steel wheels with wheel arch cladding and body-colour bumpers with black skid plates. Customers can also choose the optional Design Style Pack on both electric and hybrid versions, which comprises 16-inch white steel wheels, a white roof and roof rails.

Design models also come with a suite of driver assistance features as standard, including rear parking sensors, a rear-view parking camera, cruise control with speed limiter, lane keep assist, traffic sign recognition and driver attention alert.

On top of the generous Design specification, GS models come with aerodynamic 17-inch alloy wheels, high gloss black door mirrors and silver skid plates, as well as a black roof with tinted rear windows and LED taillights. Electric All In

New Frontera Electric is available with Electric All In, Vauxhall’s new, enhanced offer to make the switch to electric driving even more rewarding.

Electric All In introduces several key updates over the previous Plug & Go offer, ensuring drivers enjoy unparalleled support and convenience. Customers now benefit from eight years of comprehensive roadside assistance, an upgrade from the previous three years. The extended cover also includes emergency charging assistance. With this service, drivers can call for help to either recharge their vehicle at the roadside or be recovered to the nearest charging point, minimising disruption to their journey.

In addition to extended roadside support, Electric All In retains Vauxhall’s popular charging offer. This includes £500 credit which can be used towards either an Ohme home wallbox installation or Tesco charging credit or Octopus Electroverse credit. New to the offer is 10,000 miles’ worth of free home charging when switching to the Intelligent Octopus GO home energy tariff, providing significant cost savings for EV owners.2

Finally, the Electric All In offer comes with a complimentary six-month subscription to Connect Plus, accessed through the MyVauxhall app. The subscription improves the driving experience by offering features such as live navigation, remote vehicle status updates, and real-time traffic information, as well as cabin pre-conditioning and the ability to schedule charges via the app.
