Top Gear will be among the first BBC shows to return to production, following the industry-wide pauses due to the global coronavirus crisis.

“I’m pleased to announce that we plan to begin filming again on both EastEnders and Top Gear by the end of next month,” Charlotte Moore, director of content at BBC, wrote in The Telegraph.

She went on to stress that more BBC shows will be following suit as soon as they are able: “We’re also exploring ways to restart filming on more dramas and other major BBC shows as soon as possible.”

Moore insisted that social distancing will be well-observed, as well as any other precautions that can be brought in to keep everybody on set safe.

“Of course, we will be working within government guidelines,” she wrote. “Crews will be strictly limited. Cast members will do their own hair and make-up. Social distancing measures will be in place.

“We want to serve our audiences and help TV production get back on its feet, but the number one priority will remain the safety and well-being of production teams and those who work with them.”
