The 20-year-old rally talent came out on top in a driver evaluation by the Belgian motorsport association RACB and will follow in the footsteps of Lyssia Baudet.
Thyrsa Eertmans will compete in the Corsa Rally Electric of the Belgian Motorsport Association RACB and Opel Belgium in the ADAC Opel Electric Rally Cup “powered by GSe” 2025 as successor to Lyssia Baudet. The 20-year-old computer science student from Sint-Truiden beat five other female rally talents in a shootout on December 7-8 at the RACB Competence Center in Nivelles. Thyrsa Eertmans convinced the jury, chaired by experienced rally driver Melissa Debackere, together with Belgian rally and racing legend Marc Duez, rally driver Daisy Cols and RACB representative Geoffroy Theunis, with her high speed in various conditions.
Interest in this joint development program between RACB and Opel Belgium was huge. From a total of no fewer than 106 applications, the jury selected six young women who then had to prove their speed and motivation in various tests in Nivelles. The young ladies were supervised by last year’s RACB protégée Lyssia Baudet and Junior World Championship driver Tom Rensonnet. In addition to fast laps aside of experienced co-drivers Justine Demeestere and Dona Servais on a course marked out by Duez and Rennsonnet, the program included interviews, a physical performance test and simulator rides.
“The level of the six finalists was high,” said jury president Melissa Debackere. ”On Sunday, everyone had to deal with heavy rain, aquaplaning and mud on the track. In these difficult conditions, as often encountered in a rally, Thyrsa proved to be extremely efficient, fast and very calm at the wheel. Her high level of motivation for rallying was clearly evident.”
“This is an incredible opportunity for me,” said Thyrsa Eertmans. ”I already have a little experience in rallying, but competing in the ADAC Opel Electric Rally Cup gives me the chance to make a lot of progress. Especially as I can work within the framework of the RACB national team, which has already enabled many young drivers to develop.”
Welcome to the ADAC Opel Electric Rally Cup “powered by GSe”, Thyrsa!
