Recent reports from the RAC indicate over 1 million potholes currently plague the nation’s roads, particularly council-controlled routes in England and Wales, where an alarming six potholes are found per mile.
The report, which looked at 111 yellow box junctions that councils have put forward to be enforced, found that 90 (81%) of the boxes were unnecessarily large and 40 boxes (36%) had visibility issues.
Figures obtained by Churchill Motor Insurance suggest fines were handed out by local authorities at a daily rate of 19,631 in 2022.
Drivers could face fines of £130 for minor offences as the Government considers handing local councils new powers to improve roads for cyclists and pedestrians.
