Races between supercars and fighter jets are a getting a bit old, right? Well, some crazy folks over in Turkey beg to differ as they decided to put together a fleet of the fastest vehicles on wheels, plus a jet, for an epic drag race.
Held at the new Istanbul airport during an aerospace and technology festival, the race saw a Kawasaki Ninja H2R superbike, Red Bull Racing Formula One car, Lotus Evora, Aston Martin Vantage, and a Tesla Model S Electric GT race car gathered side-by-side for an epic race against an F-16 fighter jet.
Off the line, the all-electric Tesla got a slight jump but before long, the supercharged Kawasaki unleashed its 300 hp of muscle and quickly rocketed past the Model S.
The slippery surface of the runway provided a challenge for the Formula One car as it was spinning its rear wheels for hundreds of meters after the start. Once it finally found some traction, it too screamed past the Tesla and began to chase down the superbike. By the time the F1 car passed the finish line, it was just 0.4 seconds behind the Kawasaki.
Surprisingly, third place was not occupied by the stripped-out Tesla race car but the F-16. In fourth was the Tesla ahead of the Aston Martin Vantage, the second jet, and then the Lotus Evora.
We have no idea how the organizers of the event managed to arrange such an epic race, especially with a legitimate Formula One car and the F-16, but it made for a unique spectacle.
