If you happen to hold a valid license as a driving instructor, today is your lucky day! MI5 is looking for in-house instructors, to help actual spies and other agency staff hone their skills at the wheel.

This won’t make you a spy, however, MI5 still wants you to know that what you’ll be doing is as important as the work done by the spies, because, at the end of the day, you’ll be teaching them to drive.

“MI5 is responsible for protecting the United Kingdom against threats to national security. MI5 safeguard the UK against threats relating to terrorism, espionage and cyber-attacks. By joining MI5 as a DVSA qualified Approved Driving Instructor (A.D.I.), you will be playing a significant part in keeping our country safe,”  the job ad on the official page reads.

To qualify, you must live in London or be in a 70 mile radius and be OK with commuting. You must be open to flexible hours and travelling, be communicative and professional, patient and willing to go the extra mile for the job.

The job is full-time and permanent, and pays £33,783 – £36,103 a year. It involves training staff in central London or elsewhere in the UK, teaching them how to drive or helping them improve their skills. You may also be asked to give weekly training courses for the latter category of MI5 staff.

“Your primary role will be conducting driving assessments for staff both in London and various regions in the UK,” the job description states. “All assessments follow a stringent reporting process, you will be required to assess a member of staffs driving ability and be asked for professional guidance relating to staff meeting the relevant criteria.”

Since this is the MI5 we’re talking about, applying for the job is a drawn-out process with several phases. If you meet the minimum requirements, you can apply by filling the form at the official website, and wait for them to get back to you. Remember, secrecy is important, so don’t share the news of your application with people, except maybe a spouse or a family member.
