It’s rather hard to imagine a guy who would turn down an opportunity to become one of the presenters of Top Gear. In case you are having a hard time picturing this fellow, look no further than the charismatic whiskered motorcycle racer and lorry mechanic Guy Martin.

Without talking too much about what happened and how he refused to co-host Top Gear, the Isle of Man TT star simply replies that he’s already quite busy with his ongoing TV commitments and his job as truck mechanic.

What sounds like a job dream for a lot of fellows turned out to be more of a nuisance for Guy Martin, who says that the “rockstar life” never suited him too well. Instead, the Lincolnshire racer adds that he’s happy with what he has now, namely his job and several projects that involve TV appearances.

Well-known for his informal style, Guy Martin, 34, says that his ongoing TV jobs are much more fun because they involve an entirely different approach than his previous jobs.

I’m wagging my own tail and not having it wagged for me

He tells the Daily Telegraph how different things in his life are now. “I’ve never lived like a bloody rock star or anything. I’ve got my own TV stuff on the go and it’s all a bit oddball – it’s one-offs and I can do what, when and how I want it really. I don’t have any scripts or people telling me to do stuff twice. I’ve got too much on with my truck work to do any more, and I like the variation. I’m wagging my own tail and not having it wagged for me,” Martin bluntly puts it.

Recovering from a violent crash last year, Guy Martin has only recently got back on a motorcycle. However, he will be racing F1 star David Coulthard, who will be driving his Red Bull car, in a series of events that will be aired by Channel 4 this Thursday, March 17.

Speaking about the crash, Martin adds, “Yeah, I broke loads of bones and I only got back on it yesterday. But I feel 100%. You wouldn’t know I’d been injured.”

Martin will take his Tyco BMW S1000RR to Silverstone to pit it against Coulthard’s F1 beast in one of the coolest such events we heard of lately. Stay tuned for more.
