During a trip to Russelsheim, General Motors President Dan Ammann took the upcoming Ampera-e out for a short test drive, accompanied by the German brand’s CEO, Karl-Thomas Neumann.

Driving the zero-emission vehicle around Opel’s headquarters, Ammann says he was impressed with the 200 BHP and 266 lb-ft of torque produced by the electric motor, which allows the car to go from 0 to 30 mph in 3.2 seconds and from 50 to 75 mph in 4.5 seconds.

“Acceleration is pretty good”, the GM chief said. “There must be good demand for this car”. “Yes, I am absolutely convinced of that”, Neumann added, with both men believing that the zero-emission compact vehicle will shake up the electric car market when it goes on sale across Europe next year, following its world premiere at the 2016 Paris Auto Show this Autumn.

A re-badged version of the Chevrolet Bolt, will benefit from a 200 miles of range on a full charge. Pricing details are yet to be revealed, but in the US, the Bolt starts from $37,500 (£28,281) before government rebates.
