Emergency services were deployed to Vauxhall’s Ellesmere Port factory this morning (Thursday, September 13) following reports of the spillage.
Eight fire engines from Ellesmere Port, Northwich, Powey Lane, Crewe, North Wales and Merseyside were in attendance.
Police also attended and an inner cordon was also set up for safety.
Vauxhall’s press office released a statement saying: “At around 10.30 this morning there was an incident with a chemical delivery to the plant paint shop.
The staff were evacuated and the emergency services are in attendance. There are no reports of any casualties.”
Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service posted an update on their website confirming two chemicals spilled were contained within a bulk container at the site.
The statement said: “It has now been confirmed that the incident was caused by two chemicals being accidentally combined and creating gases.
“The two chemicals are contained within a bulk container at the site. The premises has been partially evacuated but no nearby premises have been evacuated.
A road closure has been put in place on North Road as emergency services work at the scene. Motorists are advised to avoid the road.
Although there are not believed to be any wider risk to the public, some people living in the immediate vicinity are being asked to close their windows and doors as a precaution.”
