Opel Rocks-e Premiere: New E-Vehicle for New Times in The City

Opel recently presents its first SUM. The new Opel Rocks-e stands for Sustainable Urban Mobility. The entry-level electric vehicle is the answer to current mobility requirements, offering electric mobility with protection from wind and rain – progressive, bold and pure, typically Opel: in tune with the zeitgeist. It can already be driven in Germany by young people from 15 years of age with the AM driving licence1. With the 2.41-metre short two-seater, Opel continues its electrification offensive. The German carmaker is expanding its model portfolio with a battery-electric SUM vehicle below the Corsa-e that nearly any driver can afford, from young beginners to urban commuters. The entry-level price for the new Opel Rocks-e in Germany will be clearly less than for a small car and the monthly leasing cost will be similar to that of a ticket for local public transportation. The Rocks-e will be available to order online or directly at selected Opel dealers from autumn onwards in Germany – additional markets are planned to follow in 2022.

Opel Manta GSe ElektroMOD: The Dream, the Team, the Technology

In the beginning there was the car. More precisely, an orange-red Opel Manta with a black vinyl roof in the Opel Classic collection. A typical representative of the colourful wild seventies! A style icon. An original, generally in good shape, but a bit worn out. Still unrestored, perhaps more of a parts carrier. At the same time, Opel’s E offensive was in full swing with new models like the Opel Mokka-e. And so one thing led to another. There is, after all, a trend in the scene towards ‘restomods’, classic vehicles with modern drives. So why not give the Manta a new lease of life electrically? With plenty of torque at the rear axle for fast sprints without a lot of noise. Just a dream? No way. The idea was born and shared – between passionate designers, 3D modellers, engineers, technicians, mechanics, product and brand experts. A group of Opel fans simply in love with cars.

New Opel Corsa-e Rally is Ready to Go

The Opel Corsa-e Rally is the first all-electric rally car from a carmaker. The Blitz-badged electric vehicles will next year take part in their own one-make series – the ADAC Opel e-Rally Cup.

Four Corsa-e Rally cars from Opel Motorsport, in the hands of drivers Marijan Griebel, Horst Rotter and Opel racing legend, Volker Strycek, last week completed three days of testing at the Pferdsfeld Test Center. The 100kW (136hp) cars covered a total of 1,500 kilometres without problems. The Corsa-e Rally is based on the successful Opel Corsa-e, the winner of the 2020 Golden Steering Wheel.

Two complete rounds of the German Rally Championship (DRM) were rehearsed during the three-day test programme – including special stages, road sections and servicing. The unique features of electro-mobility, such as times spent driving and charging, temperature management of the battery and fine-tuning the software, were tested for the first time in a rally environment. The all-electric cars also completed long runs to test the durability of the new components.

“It was an efficient and successful test”, said Opel Motorsport Director, Jörg Schrott. “We gathered important data and information for the ongoing preparations for the 2021 Opel e-Rally Cup. Unfortunately, several test rallies with our development cars could not take place due to the Covid-19 pandemic. That made our rally simulation in Pferdsfeld even more important – as a result, the new Corsa-e Rally is now ready to go.”

The ADAC Opel e-Rally Cup will comprise eight qualifying rounds between spring and autumn 2021. An additional preparation rally for all registered teams is planned before the actual start of the season.
