At the 2015 Detroit motor show General Motors International boss Stefan Jacoby confirmed that there would have a new “sports car” after 2017, Fast forward to the 2016 Detroit motor show and GM brand Buick has pulled the covers off the Avista concept, a sleek looking two-door rear-wheel drive coupe.
Avista is a concept only and no production plans have been locked in.
However, it is understood that the Avista sits on the same rear-wheel drive underpinnings as the new Chevrolet Camaro and the Cadillac ATS. Known as the Alpha platform the rear-wheel drive architecture is believed to have been developed to accept right-hand drive variants.
The Buick brand is focused on the American and Chinese markets but shares a number of models with Vauxhall.
That leaves open the possibility that if the Avista concept is given the production go-ahead it could be sold as a Buick in the USA and an Vauxhall/Opel in Europe; and potentially a Holden in Australia.
The Avista concept is reportedly powered by a 400BHP twin-turbo V6 engine.
Ultimately the appearance of the Avista concept only increases the mystery surrounding the vAUXHALL sports coupe. Since Jacoby’s comments in Detroit neither Holden, GM International or GM’s global product boss Mark Reuss has made any official comment on the car.
